Below is a list of our current volunteer opportunities.
Community Voice Mail (CVM) Volunteer:

Commitment: Work 8-12 hours per week on a flexible schedule during business hours Monday-Friday 8am-5pm
Possible tasks:
- Collect sensitive client and agency data documents received from agencies and log, enter, and file documents into the CVM system
Mortgage Foreclosure Hotline Specialist:
Learn more about the Mortgage Foreclosure Hotline
Commitment: Work at least 4 hours per week during the Monday-Friday 8am-5pm work week
Possible tasks:
- Acquire information from callers, collect and record data, search for an appropriate counseling agency from an approved list, then transfer the caller to a live counselor for help
Community Outreach Volunteer:
Possible tasks:
- Ability to represent and/or speak as an advocate on behalf of the organization to various interests groups or organizations who are potential candidates for support or advocacy
- Assist with the grassroots efforts such as distributing posters, creating flyers, distributing literature, etc… to educate and heighten the awareness of the public about CIR
- Staff or co-staff community and/or professional fairs, workshops, booths or tables
- Present general information to community, civic or social organizations or groups
- Other possibilities depending on interest & expertise of volunteer
Resource Specialist Volunteer:
Possible tasks:
- Research grants and funding opportunities for Fund Development Manager
- Resource(s) verification of agency information, contacts, programs & services
Quality Assurance Volunteer:
- CONTACS phone inquiries/updates to acquire available emergency and transitional bed counts to keep CIR informed for calls received from homeless and domestic violence victims seeking housing
- Conducts telephone call-backs to individuals who accessed CIR’s 24 Hour Help Hotline to ensure the callers received the assistance they were seeking and quality assurance
- Contact partner agencies for any current events, new programs or services
- Gleaning newspapers and publications for related information and updates
Training Requirements – CONTACS (estimated time 2 hours, 30 minutes)
- Review CONTACS processes and scripts (30-60 minutes)
- Review Shelter List (1 hour)
- Observe Shelter update process (15 minutes)
- Participate in shelter update process (30 minutes)
Training Requirements – Call-backs (estimated time1 hour, 30 minutes)
- Call-Back Concept discussion (30 minutes)
- Review list of Problem Codes (15 minutes)
- Review Call-back form and role-play making calls (45 minutes)
- Make calls (number of forms and availability determines length of time)
Training Requirements – Contact partner agencies (estimated time3 hours)
- Overview of current situation and CIR in the community (30 minutes)
- Discussion of CIR importance, strengths and benefits to community (1 hour)
- Review of partner agencies and overview of scripting ideas (1 hour)
- Role-play agency contact (30 minutes)
- Make calls to agencies
Training Requirements – Gleaning (estimated time1 hour, 15 minutes)
- Concept of gleaning (30 minutes)
- Review of examples (30 minutes)
- Co-review a newspaper to fine tune search process (15 minutes)
Development Volunteer:
Possible tasks:
- Assist with direct solicitation and/or promotional mailings
- Assist with miscellaneous tasks related to fundraising events, including volunteer positions which support and take place at event off-site locations
- Assist with the solicitation of in-kind, raffle and/or auction gifts for fundraisers
- Other possibilities depending on interest & expertise of volunteer
Administrative Volunteer:
Possible tasks:
- Data entry
- Distribution of literature or collateral materials
- Copying, filing, collating, faxing tasks
- Other possibilities depending on interest & expertise of volunteer
